Cardiac ablation for svt
Hi, I'm currently awaiting abaltion for SVT after having lived with it for 12 years. I am very apprehensive about this procedure and have backed out of it twice!! I would welcome any advice or reassurance that other members may be able to offer me,
Thanks

Hi
I was in for an ablation a couple of weeks back. I was pretty apprehensive going in but it really wasnt as bad as I built it up to be. The nurses were fantastic. One in particular was amazing. I did ask if her job was to keep me distracted, she said it wasnt but she did a good job of it!
As it turned out they couldnt complete my ablation because it turns out my vein doesnt go straight to my heart! This is highly unlikely to happen to you, the doctor had never seen this before & the consultant had seen it once before.
I had some sedation but only because I started getting a bit uncomfortable once the wire was catching in my funny, diverted veins. I think if that hadnt happened I would have managed without. They wont let you suffer & if you need some sedation, I'm sure you'll get it.
The thought of the ablation is scarier than the actual thing. The medics know exactly what they're doing, they've done it hundreds, if not thousands, of times before. Hopefully it will work for you & you will feel much better afterwards. I went in not knowing if it would work, I thought of it as another test or investigation that would hopefully help but not leave me any worse off. Turns out, they couldnt do it but I'm no worse off.
Hope this helps
