The Women's Room: Women & Heart Disease - Do you think raising awareness is succeeding??
I just wanted to ask if anyone feels that heart disease amongst women is becoming more widely recognised now by the health professionals and even the general public?
I know through the BHF many women have been involved in various media campaigns/forums/workshops to help raise awareness of heart disease amongst women, although how many of you have noticed any "awareness" changes in your dealings with the health professionals or friends and family?
I ask, as I am involved heavily from a patient and public engagement side both with the BHF and with the South East Coast Ambulance Service and wherever I am, I am always highlighting the women and heart disease cause!
What was really refreshing for me, was in February I had a short stint at my local hospital and it was great to hear the Cardiology Consultant confirm that he understands how women's symptoms can be completely different and that there does not seem to be age restrictions in todays world etc etc...
Do you think the message is "getting out there"??!! Or do you have experiences/knowledge that a heart attack still has the stereotypical image associated with it??
